Right now I dont see a reason for me to ever have to pick one up again. I have no issue with a crossbow hunter or a bow hunter. Fact is, I think it might even get more intense every time. I have no idea how many deer I've shot with my compound (in the 40-50 range I guess), but that feeling does not lessen. For that matter, I am not sure there is even another feeling in the world like just getting drawn on an animal and not even getting the shot off. One thing I can tell you about shooting a regular bow is that there is absolutely no feeling in the world like having a beast within bow range and drawing that bow back and settling that pin and squeezing that shot and watching that arrow bury in the dirt. Oh and that I absolutely HATED carrying and hanging onto it or moving it around when on stand. Compared to a longbow or a compound bow, their range is often smaller and FPS (foot per second) is lower. Crossbows are smaller, more compact, and work differently than bows due to the way they operate. Only thing I can for sure tell you about a crossbow is that they are accurate and will kill deer just like a compound or a rifle for that matter. The trigger of a crossbow releases the locking device that enables the bolt to be fired. A typical crossbow can shoot an arrow at up to 400 feet per second (fps), while a. So I am not sure I can tell you what its like to actually shoot one with it. Crossbows are generally faster than compound bows. I know I hunted with one a few times and I know that when my lil brother decided to try his hand at hunting (he was about 35 at the time) he shot a couple with a crossbow but I dont think I did. And tactical attachments, like a grip, or bayonet, or flashlight. Crossbow comes with a 6x scope, and you can put a 12x/20x scope on it too. compound bow if you have a 6X / 12X scope for it. I was sitting here trying to remember if I've ever killed a deer with a crossbow and honestly cant remember. Title give me your opinion compound bow if you have a 6X / 12X scope for it. You don't get that with a crossbow, not even shooting 50 yds. away and the deer run off with an arrow sticking out of their side. Hence this is why when you watch bow hunting shows and the guys shoot deer 20 yds. Most compound bows are about half of that. Especially if you are shooting bows such as the Excalibur Matrix 380 that has a jaw dropping 112lbs of KE. As far as being lethal, a crossbow is far more lethal and effective than a compound period. Safety is priority and a crossbow just like a compound bow needs to be inspected regularly for damage that can also create an injury. As far as not being safe, anyone that puts their thumb in the way of the string path should have thought safety through. I have NEVER not had a pass through and one of my recent deer turned as I shot and traveled the entire length of the deer from chest to rear and kept going another 20 feet until it went into the ground. The heavier the bolt the more KE is delivered on impact causing greater damage and the pass through. While crossbows have a lot of KE using to light of a bolt makes the KE ineffective. If you were not getting penetration you were likely using far to light of a bolt. There is so much wrong with that statement I don't know where to start.
